Boring Windows
There's something monumental about the purely functional, done on a budget, to make money. Business has nothing to do with beauty. Make a building as cheaply as possible. Charge as much rent as possible. That's the way of the world.
I remember visiting Europe, about ten years ago, where just about every building, even in poor neighborhoods, was decorated. Upon returning to Montreal, it was shocking to see the lack of ornamentation. Suddenly everything looked extremely plain.
Of course, I soon forgot about Europe and once again, tuned into the drab. If you stare at a brick wall long enough, it becomes a sort of Zen garden, soothing to the mind.
